Tell us a bit about yourself—how did you get to where you are today? Any highlights, personal or professional?
I’m a student currently doing a Bachelor of Commerce, and on the side, I have been playing professional e-sports on behalf of my country. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel around the globe and experience many cultures and types of people which is what led me to partake in the ISS.
Any fun or quirky facts about you?
I almost died in a tsunami, and I can speak a South African dialect of Dutch called Afrikaans.
What motivated you to choose the INSEAD Summer School, and how do you think it will align with your future goals, even at this early stage?
My mom is an INSEAD alumna and recommended the course to me, and I was very keen to join. At this early stage, I was just aiming to create connections and learn from world-leading professors. Still, hopefully, in the long run, it will allow me to grow within my business profession on an international scale.
How was your experience at ISS? What did a typical day look like?
One of the most interesting and exciting experiences of my life. The day generally included lectures with incredible professors, really good food, a town to explore with friends, and then random fun activities that changed daily.
Any memorable moments you’ll carry with you?
Definitely, the talent show, getting to speak to such incredible doctors and professors, and most of all, exploring Paris with my newly made friends.
What were your impressions of campus life, your classmates, and the professors? How did you find living in Fontainebleau for two weeks?
The Fontainebleau accommodation was amazing, and campus life had long, hectic days but was very enjoyable.
In terms of classmates and professors, I don’t think I’ve ever met such incredible people as I did while at the INSEAD Summer School, truly an unexpected experience that definitely changed my life.
Could you share a little about your application process and getting to Fontainebleau?
My application was a video interview where I discussed a bit about my life. Getting to Fontainebleau from South Africa was a really long trip, however once in Paris I made travel arrangements with others in my class and we had a wonderful driver who took us right to campus.
Any advice or words of wisdom for someone thinking about joining ISS?
Definitely do it! Keep an open mind, and it may be cliche, but most definitely try to learn and experience the most you possibly can during those two weeks. It gives you a perspective of the world on a global level that can’t be matched. Truly an unforgettable course.
