Ali Wehbe

Ali, could you share a little about your personal and professional profile, and how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Lebanon, I embarked on my professional journey at the age of 16 to fund my education. After graduating in 2007, I moved to Saudi Arabia in 2008, which, although challenging, was a pivotal moment in my career.
My eight-year stint at Amex was foundational, and later, the opportunity to join Mastercard in varied roles solidified my passion for the company. My colleagues often wonder about my dedication to Mastercard, and my response is simple: I feel valued, included, and every day is a learning opportunity.
Anything unexpected about you?
People often dub me the "gentle giant" due to my warm heart, despite my imposing presence.
What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career?
Relocating to Dubai and taking up a regional role overseeing 81 markets in EEMEA and starting INSEAD all together was a significant milestone. Building and leading a team amidst challenges, lots of travels, being away from family, I challenged myself, I won and thrived in the environment.
Why did you choose to pursue INSEAD’s Executive MBA programme?
My lofty aspirations pushed me to identify academic gaps in my knowledge.
I am an ardent believer in continuous learning and felt INSEAD was the perfect institution to offer me that growth.
What is the biggest lesson you gained during your EMBA and how have you applied it at work?
The importance of collaboration, teamwork, and effective management stands out. I've integrated these principles into my work ethos.
What advice would you give to a student looking to enter an Executive MBA programme?
Focus less on the grades and more on personal growth. Absorb knowledge from your peers, cherish the moments, and foster lasting relationships.
What is the biggest myth about going back to school?
Many perceive it as a breeze, but it demands significant effort and dedication.
What was the main reason you chose an Executive MBA programme over part-time or online alternatives?
I am a staunch believer in full commitments.
If I undertake something, I immerse myself completely, which is why I chose the comprehensive Executive MBA over other formats.
What is your ultimate long-term professional goal?
I aspire to ascend to a senior executive or C-suite position at Mastercard. My vision is to mentor the next generation and leave behind a legacy of collaborative achievements.
