What made you decide to do an MBA?

I like to be on top of the latest academic insights, meet new people, travel, experience things and be challenged; a combination of factors that you can find in a leading MBA programme. I chose INSEAD because of the strong Entrepreneurship curriculum, an opportunity to live in France and Singapore, and because of the stellar brand name, which attracts the best professors and students.

Is INSEAD what you expected?

I didn’t try to expect too much, given that it is a year away from ‘normal life’. Would I make the same decision with the knowledge I have today? Absolutely. The people are inspiring, the classes are great and the diversity and numerous activities allow you to explore every interest that you might have.

How has the INSEAD MBA changed your life?

I believe every new experience changes someone’s life to a certain extent and an INSEAD MBA is no different. However, because of the diversity of people and pace of the programme, you are constantly confronted with interesting new perspectives that test your view on life.  In addition, these 10 months provided the unique opportunity to take a step back and evaluate which direction you want to go in life.

What are your plans after the MBA?

I try to keep an open mind about opportunities within a defined focus area – to be able seize opportunities as they come along. Currently, I am focused on returning to the private equity market (Netherlands or international) or to work for a start-up that aims to attract substantial equity and debt financing within the foreseeable future.

How does the MBA programme aid you in your career moving forward?

Having worked predominately in the Netherlands, this is where I have most of my contacts. After this programme, I will know people and have friends from all over the world. Furthermore, these 10 months allow me to explore different industries and sectors. It is a great time to reflect on what you truly value in life and to pursue just that.

What advice will you give to potential students looking to do an INSEAD MBA?

I would like to give two. One, before you decide to pursue an INSEAD MBA, think long and hard why, given the preparation needed, financial costs and intensity of the programme. “There are many roads to Rome” and if supported by the right reasons, this is not an experience you want to miss! Two, try to maintain focus on the things you want to achieve. It is a great thing that there are so many opportunities, events and activities. However, there is a danger that people get lost and lose focus.
