Anticipating and Embracing Changes

Stephanie Iem

Having gone through the 2008 financial crisis and now going through the COVID-19 crisis, I am convinced that one needs to adapt to fast-changing environments by acquiring new skills and challenging the status quo.

Something that I strongly believe in, is that the Executive MBA (EMBA) programme at INSEAD will help me navigate not only this current crisis, but future ones as well.

The programme will help me to develop the right mindset in order to anticipate and embrace changes in my industry and my work environment.

Looking back, I had been considering to pursue the EMBA for a few years. After discussions with alumni, and because it was the right time personally and professionally, I decided to apply for the 2020 intake.

I was among the last candidates to take the EMBA assessment on the Fontainebleau campus before the lockdown was announced in France.

When writing my essays, I had to really think about my career aspirations for the next 10 years. I looked back at my 13 years’ experience in the finance industry and I did a ‘mid-career check’. It helped me lay down the path I wanted to follow next. I actually liked studying for the written test, and I took it as a challenge since it had been 10 years since I passed my last finance exam.

I am very much looking forward to meeting and exchanging with other EMBA participants.

What makes the programme so interesting is the breath and diversity in the profiles of the participants, be it in their positions or their backgrounds.

I am eager to improve my leadership skills, develop my network as well as learn about the latest trends in various topics.
