From Insight To Impact: How the Milken Institute Asia Summit Shaped My Summer
This summer, I had the privilege of interning with the Milken Institute's Business & Programme Development team, an opportunity supported by the INSEAD Hoffmann Institute Impact Internship Stipend.
My primary responsibility was helping secure sponsors and develop programmes for the Asia Summit 2024, the region's premier event on finance and philanthropy, held from 18 to 20 September at the Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore. This event gathered over 1,200 leaders from finance, technology, health, and philanthropy, all focused on innovative solutions to pressing regional and global challenges.
The picture was taken at the Speakers & Sponsors Reception on 17 September 2024, with Curtis Chin (left) and Laura Deal Lacey (right) alongside interns and Princeton Fellows—celebrating the kick-off to a transformative summit.
The summit, themed "Impactful Ideas: Purposeful Action," featured keynotes and panels from influential figures such as Tony Blair (former Prime Minister of the UK), Paul Kagame (President of Rwanda), James Vowles (Team Principal of Williams Racing), Ray Dalio (founder of Bridgewater Associates), Kevin Lu (Partner and Chairman of Asia at Partners Group), Dan Beckerman (President & CEO of AEG), and Choi Si-Won (K-pop star and UNICEF Ambassador), to name a few.
Their leadership in diverse sectors, from politics to entertainment, underscored the cross-industry collaborations required for driving meaningful change. The event also provided an exclusive platform for high-profile discussions on healthcare innovation, environmental sustainability, and responsible investing, focusing on turning dialogue into action.
The summit facilitated these connections and showcased how global leaders come together to foster impactful change. One of my most significant takeaways from this internship was the importance of building relationships that transcend industries and geographies.
Events like this are essential because they offer a unique opportunity for decision-makers to exchange ideas, establish partnerships, and set actionable goals for a better future. The exposure I gained through this role was invaluable, expanding my network and refining my skills in navigating complex global issues.
This experience taught me the value of meaningful relationships and the unparalleled importance of platforms like the Milken Institute Asia Summit, where leaders from around the world come together to turn impactful ideas into purposeful actions.
