Can you tell us a little more about yourself and your personal/professional journey so far?

I am an experienced corporate finance professional with a demonstrated history of working in the real estate, oil and gas, and energy industry. I am trained in accounting (my Bachelor degree), and aligned with my work requirements I obtained my Charter Valuer and Appraiser certificate in 2021.

Currently, I am well skilled in Investment Assessment, Financial Performance Management, Budgeting, Financial Modeling, Business Valuation and Business Planning etc.

Any fun facts about yourself you would be willing to share?

Before COVID, I tried to learn Latin dance, including cha-cha-cha, rumba and samba. Although I am not professional about it, I do enjoy the moment of moving my body with the music. During the pandemic I picked up oil painting and it's a totally different experience with colours. I mainly paint scenery, city landscapes and flowers. My house is currently full of my final products, with different pieces expressing different feelings. That's become an amazing achievement I'm quite proud of.

So, what made you decide to take on the EMFin programme at INSEAD, amongst the other programmes out there?

As a finance, valuation and investment professional, my current work responsibilities, as well as my future career plans, will continue to develop within the finance field.

The EMFin programme at INSEAD meets my needs for finance field and related management capabilities.

As I have more than 10 years of working experience in the industry, I need to learn skills at a higher grade. Compared with other possibilities on the market, the syllabus and design of the programme is more in line with my requirements in this area.

You’ve completed module 1. Please share your thoughts on your classmates, the faculty and classroom experience?

I am very grateful to be able to sit in the classroom again and have a face-to-face learning exchange opportunity with professors and classmates. Such an experience is very precious. With the help and guidance from the professors, we have learned from each other despite coming from different industry backgrounds.

We conducted different class projects with various groups and discovered more possibilities from open discussions. Through the process, we got to know each other better, encouraged each other and made progress together. The professors are very professional, and they are also experienced market participants in the field.

They guide us, allowing us to conduct comprehensive analyses and make judgments on the latest changes in the industry and the market, as well as market orientation, and at the same time build our thinking mode to deal with problems effectively.

Any advice, application or admissions tips for someone thinking of joining the EMFin programme?

If you would like to grow and enhance your professional and management skill in finance, or you would like to know more professional people in the same field, the EMFin programme is the right programme for you.

What are your plans post-graduation?

After graduation, I will probably stay within the same field, and explore any opportunities which tap along my professional skills.

Any parting words of wisdom?

Learning is the shortcut that allows us to stand on the shoulder of giants to see the world.
