Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Rehaan, I’m 18 and originally from Mauritius, though I’ve lived in London most of my life. I just graduated from boarding school in London and will soon start a Bachelor’s in International Management at King’s College.
My aunt and uncle are INSEAD alumni, which is how I first heard about the Summer School. I’ve always been interested in entrepreneurship. I’ve started two businesses already: one in Mauritius, which was featured in People’s Magazine, and an events company in London that’s still growing. I came to INSEAD both to learn from experts and to connect with like-minded people from around the world.
Do you feel the Summer School is relevant to you at this stage?
Absolutely. Many of the mistakes I made with my startups are being addressed here. I’ve learned solutions I can apply straight away. The professors have incredible credentials and business experience, and the diversity of participants makes for such a rich learning environment. I’ve already met people I know I’ll keep in touch with for years.
How will you use what you’ve learned here?
It’s going to be useful both in my future ventures and at university. I’ve done other summer courses, but what stands out at INSEAD is how dedicated the faculty are. Even though the group ranges from 18 to 24 years old, with some having completed Master’s degrees, they make the content engaging and accessible for everyone.
What’s it like working with people who are older than you?
It’s great. We’re often put in mixed-age groups, and I’ve learned a lot from those with more experience. Combining fresh, innovative ideas with deeper professional insight makes for powerful collaboration. And socially, everyone treats you as an equal.
Any favourite classes or professors so far?
Adrian Johnson’s session on “Your First 100 Days” really stood out, along with Alex Kuhlman’s class ‘Leading from the Cockpit’. Adrian’s course threw me into the deep end with complex financial concepts, but that challenge pushed me to collaborate, think critically and reach solutions with my team.
Your top tip for future students?
Be open-minded from day one. Talk to as many people as you can — everyone’s in the same boat, and if you feel nervous, chances are they do too. Take the first step.
Would you do it again?
Without hesitation. It’s been an incredible experience, and I’d recommend it to anyone who gets the chance.
