Could you share something unexpected or a fun fact about you?
I’m a bit of a coffee connoisseur! I love exploring different types of coffee from around the world, and experimenting with various beans, roasts, and brewing methods. From the bright, fruity notes of African beans to the rich, chocolatey flavours of South American coffee, each region has its own unique profile, and it’s fascinating to discover them all. It’s a small ritual that brings me joy, and I’m always on the lookout for new flavours to try.
Tell us about yourself, and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Singapore, I developed a strong foundation in math and science, leading me to pursue a degree in biological sciences to delve into the cellular level of life. Initially, I aspired to become a scientist in drug development research. But along the way, I became increasingly interested in psychology and business, which broadened my perspective on healthcare.
My passion for life sciences and healthcare has been a guiding force throughout my career. After graduating, I spent a few years in the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on ecosystem strategy for digital healthcare.
While I found the work deeply rewarding, I recognised gaps in my expertise that I believed an MBA could bridge. Conversations with colleagues helped me confirm my decision to pursue an MBA. I see life as a gift and want to embrace every opportunity that resonates with me. Ultimately, I hope to work with global teams in the pharmaceutical sector and make a meaningful impact on patients' lives.
What motivated you to choose the INSEAD MBA, and how do you envision it aligning with your future goals?
With my technical background in biological sciences, I realised I needed to strengthen my business acumen to advance in my career.
While researching MBA programmes, INSEAD stood out for its diversity and global network.
I was eager to immerse myself in a multicultural environment and gain perspectives from peers with varied backgrounds. My ambition to work in a global organisation aligns perfectly with INSEAD’s reputation for fostering strong, long-lasting connections and support networks, making it an ideal platform for my growth.
What are your impressions of campus life so far and how did you navigate accommodation, and sorting out all the admin? Any tips for incoming students?
I highly recommend joining the Intensive Language Programme, if possible. Learning Spanish with my classmates was a fun challenge and a wonderful way to bond with them and learn about each other.
Could you share a little about your application process and securing financing?
I applied through early admissions, initially aiming for an earlier intake. INSEAD kindly offered delayed admission, allowing me additional time to work toward some personal goals.
I thoroughly enjoyed my interviews with alumni and would encourage others to use this opportunity to learn about their experiences.
Since I’m financing my MBA independently, I’m very grateful to have received the INSEAD Singapore Scholarship to help alleviate the financial burden.
You are starting your INSEAD MBA in Singapore. Are you planning any campus exchanges?
Yes, I’m looking forward to an exchange in Abu Dhabi during P3. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain insights into the Middle East market and explore both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
In your first few weeks, what aspects of the INSEAD MBA have stood out to you as unique or particularly appealing?
Casual coffee chats with my peers have enriched my experience, giving me insight into their diverse trajectories. The diversity within the INSEAD MBA is truly remarkable. It has been eye-opening to hear the unique life stories of my classmates and learn about the various career paths that brought them here.
The programme is intense, but I appreciate the engaging professors and the emphasis on open dialogue and exchanging perspectives.
Aside from your academic pursuits, what extracurricular interests or activities are you exploring at INSEAD, and how do you see them enhancing your overall MBA experience?
I’m interested in serving as co-president of the Healthcare Club, where I aim to highlight the talent and opportunities in Singapore and the APAC region.
I am also on the team leading the Robin Hood Scholarship campaign, which supports future MBA candidates with their finances. I believe scholarships play a crucial role in creating educational opportunities for underrepresented communities.
Any parting words of wisdom, and are you willing to be contacted for more information by prospective students?
Treat this as an investment in yourself and your growth. Embrace any and all opportunities that align with your future goals, but most importantly, enjoy the journey—it truly has the potential to be life-changing.
I’m more than happy to answer any questions from future INSEADers.
