The INSEAD Summer School Programme is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a global learning environment, develop essential leadership skills, and build a strong network. To make the most of this experience, it’s important to actively engage with all aspects of the programme. Here are some tips to help you maximise your time at INSEAD.

1. Embrace the diversity

One of the most enriching aspects of the INSEAD Summer School is the diversity of its participants. With students from over 20 countries, you’ll be surrounded by a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Johanna Schmucker, ISS’23, a German student who is pursuing a BA in Artificial Intelligence for Business, appreciated the "very international learning environment" and how the diverse backgrounds of her peers "made the experience incredibly enriching".

Take the time to engage with your classmates—both inside and outside the classroom—because these interactions will broaden your understanding of global issues and enhance your learning experience.

2. Engage actively in the classroom

The classroom at INSEAD is designed to be a dynamic environment where ideas are exchanged and debated. Participating actively in discussions, asking questions, and sharing your insights will help you get the most out of the programme.

Lorenzo Girola, ISS’23, who is currently pursuing a Master’s in Applied Economics and Management with a concentration in Behavioural Finance, found that the leadership sessions "set the expectations very high for what INSEAD was, and what it could give me on a personal and professional level". Don’t hesitate to dive deep into the discussions—this is where real learning happens, and your contributions are valued.

3. Leverage networking opportunities

Networking is a key component of the INSEAD Summer School experience.

The connections you make here could lead to lifelong professional relationships. Jira Jadekittichoke, reflecting on his experience, noted, "The people you are going to meet are inspiring. You will get to know more about yourself and ultimately get to move closer to your goal".

Be proactive in attending social events, joining group projects, and engaging with your peers during breaks. These interactions are not just about making contacts but about building meaningful relationships that can support your career long-term.

4. Explore Fontainebleau and beyond

While the academic aspect of the programme is important, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the beautiful surroundings of Fontainebleau. The town’s rich history and natural beauty offer a perfect counterbalance to your studies. Ayushi Kapoor found the environment to be the right fit for her ambitions, helping her to envision her future career. Take some time to visit the Château de Fontainebleau, hike in the forest, or simply relax in one of the town’s charming cafés. Additionally, with Paris just a short train ride away, you can easily explore one of the world’s most vibrant cities during your weekends.

5. Reflect on your goals and progress

Throughout the programme, it’s essential to regularly reflect on your personal and professional goals.

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the Summer School?

Are you gaining the skills and knowledge needed to reach those goals? Johanna Schmucker’s experience highlights the importance of staying aligned with your ambitions, as she valued the global orientation and cultural openness she developed during the programme. Taking time to assess your progress can help you stay focused and make any necessary adjustments to your approach.

6. Stay open to new experiences

The INSEAD Summer School is designed to challenge you in new and unexpected ways. Whether through rigorous coursework, leadership exercises, or interactions with diverse peers, you’ll be pushed out of your comfort zone.

Alexis Ramos Alvarado found the programme to be a stepping stone towards a more global perspective, gaining valuable skills and insights that will shape his future endeavours. Embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth, and remain open to learning from every experience. And last but not least, have fun!
